‘Fastboy/Liquid Lips’ April 21st
The Bluetones are to release a brand-new double A side ‘Fastboy’
and ‘Liquid Lips’ on April 21st 2003 through Superior Quality
Recordings.
Having been tucked away in a recording studio since last year, the two
tracks are taken from their forthcoming as yet unnamed fourth studio
album. Both tracks were produced by the band and Gordon Mills at Raezor
studios in Wandsworth.
With a fifty date tour approaching next month, taking The Bluetones
back to the kind of venues fans won’t have seen them play since
the early days, the new material also denotes a change in direction
for the band. As Mark Morriss puts it, "Both songs are from the
first session recorded for the album in which we’ve taken a stripped
down approach to the songwriting process.". He also goes on to
say that both tracks, representative of the forthcoming album as a whole,
are incredibly different to anything form the last studio album ‘Science
And Nature’, in fact "completely different to anything we’ve
ever done before".
Fans received the first whiff of new material early this month
when ‘I©The City’ was given away as a download to those
registering their details at the brand spanking new website, www.bluetones.co.uk.
A video for ‘Fastboy’ will be recorded shortly, and is set
to feature a cameo from the latest recruit to the blue army, legendary
DJ, Dave Lee Travis. In keeping with the band’s DIY ethic, the
video has been co-written and directed by Mark also the single and album
artwork has been created by Scott.
The Bluetones’ biggest ever tour starts on March 16th
in Colchester and continues right through to London Astoria on May 22nd.
The band have hinted that the tour will be of a completely different
format to their last Bluetones Promenader tour of last summer and the
Best Of The Bluetones tour prior to that. Mark Morriss has said "We’re
using this tour as a new beginning hence we’re taking it back
to the smaller venues, it’s like we’re just starting out
again". He adds that the show will be built quite heavily around
the new material, far removed from the fan-selected set-list shows they’ve
done in the past.
‘Fastboy/Liquid Lips’ is released April 21st, the
as yet untitled album will follow in May, both on Superior Quality Recordings/Vital.
